LUBICA VARGICOVA - Soprano
Lubica VARGICOVA is graduated from the Music Faculty of Bratislava's University for Dramatic Art in the class of Prof. Vlasta Hudecová.
While student she became soloist of the Slovak National Opera in Bratislava where she made her debuts as Queen of the Night in Mozart's MAGIC FLUTE and following up with the title part in Verdi's TRAVIATA, Olympia in HOFFMANN'S TALES, Gilda in RIGOLETTO, Amina in LA SONNAMBULA , Norina in DON PASQUALE , Konstanze in DIE ENTFUHRUNG AUS DEM SERAIL, Lucia in LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR and Ophelia in HAMLET. She toured with the company in Germany, Luxembourg, Switzerland (Lucia) and France (Olympia).
Selected from over 2.000 candidates, Lubica VARGICOVA took part at the "Belcanto Gala" at the Munich Opera. She closed the Smetana Festival with Peter Dvorsky.
She performed at the Prague National Theatre the Queen of the Night in Mozart's MAGIC FLUTE, in Paris Olympia in HOFFMANN'S TALES, at the Budapest Theatre Olympia , Lucia , La Traviata, Gilda, at the Munich Opera Lucia, at the Opera Company in Berne Violetta and Lucia .
Lubica VARGICOVA caused a considerable uproar making her debuts as Olympia at the Salzburg Festival in David McVicar's production of HOFFMANN'S TALES under Kent Nagano with R.Raimondi, Rydl, Lipovsek.
This young artists has been praised in all international newspapers emphazising her fine coloratura technique, her glittering high notes and the sweetness of her timbre, combined with a comanding presence on stage.
Recent and upcoming engagements include the Metropolitan Opera in a new production of MAGIC FLUTE under James Levine. The New Yorks times wrote: „ in her Met debut the Slovak soprano L'ubica Vargicová dispatched the Queen of the Night's devilish coloratura with fearless attack, bright tone and impressive accuracy", Vienna State Opera as Gilda, Amina , Bratislava and Lima in Peru with Juan Diego Florez as Marie in LA FILLE DU REGIEMENT, State Opera in Munich, Deutsche Oper Berlin, Wiener Festwochen, as the Queen , repeated at the Festival d' Aix-en-Provence, Teatro Real in Madrid, Hamburg's State Opera as Violetta and Marie , Bratislava as Zerbinetta , San Diego Opera as Gilda.
An album with french and italian Opera arias has been released in 2000.
