The Slovak bass Peter MIKULAS ranks among the leading Slovak singers. He studied at the Academy of Music and Drama in Bratislava , where he graduated in 1978. His awards include triumph in three important international vocal competitions, the 1978 A.Dvorak Singers Competition in Karlovy Vary, the 1982 Tchaïkovsky Competition in Moscow and the 1984 Mirjam Helin Competition in Helsinki.
He is soloist at the Slovak National Theatre Bratislava.
Peter MIKULAS made his debut at the Slovak National Theatre Bratislava and belonged to the prominent singers of this house. He sang the roles like Kezal in DIE VERKAUFTE BRAUT de Smetana, ELISIR D’AMORE (Dulcamara), LUCIA DI LAMMERMOOR (Raimojdo), SIMON BOCCANEGRA (Fiesco), COSI FAN TUTTE (Alfonso), DON GIOVANNI (Leporello), DIE ZAUBERFLOTE (Sarastro), RUSALKA by Dvorak (Wassermann), EUGEN ONEGIN (Gremin).
Peter MIKULAS has performed in major houses round the world: Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, Vienna Staatsoper, Scala di Milan, Roma Opera, Teatro Carlo Felice in Genua, Verona, Metropolitan Opera, Covent Garden, Birmingham Royal Feestival Hall, Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Netherlands Opera, Madrid, Théâtre de la Monnaie in Brussels, National Theatre in Prague.
He took part in numerous festivals : Salzburg, Edimburg, Cardiff, BBC-Proms in London and worked with conductors like: V.Ashkenazy, J.Belohlavek, S.Byshkov, C.M.Giulini, Sir C.Mackerras, V.Neumann, G.Prêtre, S.Rattle.
He has appeared in DON GIOVANNI (Leporello), OEDIPUS REX , PULCINELLA, LA DAMNATION DE FAUST, FAUST (Mephisto), DON CARLO (Philippe II), FALSTAFF, LA SONNAMBULA , DER RING der NIBELUNGEN , DER FLIEGENDE HOLLÄNDER, DAS RHEINGOLD, MAKROPULOS AFFAIR.
Peter MIKULAS gives regular concerts with the Wiener Philharmoniker, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Orchetra of the Academia di Santa Cecilia Roma, Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, RTV Madrid in concert halls as Wiener Musikverein, Royal Albert Hall in London, Gewandhaus Leipzig, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées.
Large concert activities include THE GLAGOLITIC MASS , STABAT MATER , THE SPECTRE’S BRIDE, ST.LUDMILA, JAKOBIN by Dvorak, RUSALKA by Smetana, Schubert’s “MASS in E-Dur n°6”, Martinu’s “EPIC of GUIGAMESH”, Janacek’s GLAGOLITIC MASS, Verdi’s REQUIEM, Haydn’s DIE SCHÖPFUNG, Mahler’s SYMPHONY n°8, J.S.Bach CHRISTMAS ORATORIO, Berlioz ENFANT DU CHRIST , Prokofiev’s IVAN THE TERRIBLE, Shostakovitch’s SYMPHONY n°13.
